change is always in the air!
Whatever the time of year, when something needs changing,
it needs changing!!!
To make changes successfully, start with a plan.
Make the projects small and manageable, and finish one project
at a time.
So where do we begin?
Put yourself first, choose your bedroom. Waking up to
an organized space is one of the best gifts you can
give yourself. You will love the new ’un-frazzled’
you.
The Seasons of Change…..
Think of your closet as your favorite store. Fashion is seasonal,
that is why the stores only carry one season at a time. We
don’t need those heavy winter sweaters or jackets anymore
while we are enjoying the sunshine of spring. So let’s
put them away until next winter.
Before you take the time to box them up in CLEAR totes and
properly LABEL them (hint hint). Make sure these clothes are
WORTHY of your effort to organize them and ask the questions.
- Do you love this piece of clothing?
- Is it flattering?
- Did you wear it more than once this season?
If not……let it go...let it go...let
it go!
SPEED TIP: Have a garbage bag ready
to be filled for donation. Also have your clear tote available
so you can put your winter keeps directly in it.
Next, store your winter apparel in a space that is not damp
or too cold. If space is tight even the shelves or floor of
your closet will do.
THE FUN PART: Now you can SORT your remaining
clothes by style and then colour.
- Style= pants, skirts, short sleeve T’s,
button up shirt, long sleeve shirts etc.
- Colour= black, white, red (okay this
one is obvious)
Organizing your closet this way will make every item easy
to find in the morning.
Don’t forget to ask yourself the “Is it worthy?”
questions every time you touch an item. If you are keeping
it, make sure and take good care of it. Place it on a nice
hanger ensuring it is ready to wear (cleaned and ironed).
HANGER TIPS: Matching hangers make all the
difference to making your closet a beautiful space! Wooden
hangers are nice but they are the most expensive and take
up a lot more space. The white plastic hangers are a great
alternative, as much as possible try to invest in quality
pant and skirt hangers. You don’t want your newly ironed
pants falling on the floor.
Follow the same steps for your folded clothes. Sort by style
and colour then the things you don’t need.
Let go… let go……let go.
Then fold and put away the ones that you really enjoy and
use them because you can find them.
QUALITY TIP: Less is better. Having only
a few items that you love is always better than a closet full
of clothes that you don’t like or don’t wear!!!
FRESH IDEAS: Why not hang up some lovely
pictures in your closet? Just because it’s a closet
doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful. Have a few
meaningful photos or an inspirational poem to start your day
with.
TIME: This project should only take you
about 2 or 3 hours start to finish. Try to block off the time
from everything (the phone, the kids) and give yourself this
gift.
Don’t forget, if you need a little help, we at RECREATED
SPACES are always here to get your started and most importantly
help you finish!
